The science bit:
The drone is a 4-note chord in ratios 1/1 - 9/7 - 16/11 - 40/21 (with 1/1 being G). The cello strings are tuned to these notes. All the cello part derives from the natural harmonics of this tuning. The cello line was improvised, then edited and processed.
