Where Does a Body End? is a performance installation created in collaboration with Irene Fiordilino

Irene and I have worked together  a lot and as our collaborative practice has developed we've moved from a relatively conventional musician-dancer relationship to a much more fluid way of being, where the distinction between sounding and moving practices begins to dissolve. At heart what we wanted to do in this work was make something where you couldn't be sure who did what.

The basis for the work is a deconstruction  of my identity as a cellist: thinking about the relationship between me and my instrument less as practitiner and tool and more as a collaborative entanglemetn of two agential bodies. By doubling the human and cello bodies to four and using Graham Harman's formulation of the fourfold object as a frame we explore changing and shifting relationshiops between these four bodies as elements of a larger object.

You can read more about the ideas and processes behind this work in my PhD thesis.
