About

Peter Nagle is a composer-performer, sonic artist, educator and researcher based in London. His practice encompasses improvisation, alternative tunings, drone and loop textures, electronica and movement, often in multi- and trans-disciplinary contexts. His research interests revolve around identities and approaches in transdisciplinary collaboration and ambiguity and uncertainty as aesthetic strategies.

Peter studied composition at Sheffield University with David Harold Cox, and later with Michael Finnissy. He obtained his doctorate in creative practice in 2024 at Trinity Laban, where he also teaches. His music has been performed in Bath, Birmingham, Huddersfield, Manchester and London by ensembles and performers including Elision, the New Music Players, the Duke Quartet, Angharad Davies and rarescale.

As a performer Peter has appeared at venues throughout London including the Horse Improvised Music Club, Linear Obsessional Live, I’Klectik and APT Gallery. Collaborators include Angharad Davies, Irene Fiordilino, Petra Haller, Tom Jackson, Rahel Kraft, Neil Luck, Carla Rees, Tansy Spinks, Emily Suzanne Shapiro, Megan Steinberg, Sophie Stone and Claire Zakiewicz.

His score for Scirocco Dance Theatre’s Invisible Cities was premiered in 2022 and a further collaboration, Once up on a cube, was featured in the Totally Thames Festival in 2023. Ouroboros, an installation/performance created in collaboration with Carla Rees, was first presented in 2024. He appears live regularly in collaboration with Claire Zakiewicz and Emily Suzanne Shapiro in an ongoing multidisciplinary practice, and with Jonny Martin in the electro-acoustic improvising duo Rising of the Lights. He has also released several solo albums including An Equal and Opposite Reaction (Linear Obsessional, 2019) and appears on Sophie Stone’s Amalgamations (2022, Sawyer Editions).
