Between Stations (1998)
for piano, violin and cello
duration ca. 5'
Traveling on the London Underground, one may occasionally find oneself trapped for any number of reasons - dilapidated train, emergency cords pulled, signal failures etc. - in a tunnel between stations. Time seems to slow down at these moments, and, as the roar of the train in the tunnel ceases, we become momentarily aware of our own thoughts, and of other passengers, which and whom we usually ignore. These usually suppressed thoughts become suddenly foremost, until the train lurches forward once more, and we can retreat again into the safety of our mundane lives, and continue to deny that anything deeper than this might ever trouble us.
