A lot of projects that have been ongoing for a very long time are nearing completion, so hopefully there will be a string of posts appearing here in the near future. In the midst of all this I wrote a new piece for solo cello by accident. It's called simply Here, and you can hear a rough recording of it and download a score here.
It's a long piece - just shy of 100' in the recording linked above. It's concerned with the overtones produced by simpley playing two tones together on a cello. It's a continuation of my interests in just intonation and drones. I think La Monte Young's influence is pretty obvious but there's a whole load of other stuff too. Above all, this is a piece that requires virtuosity - not of acrobatics of fingers, but of listening and existing in the moment, here, now.
